Charter Schools

Tyler Lovallo                                                                                  Charter Schools                         Charter Schools are innovative public schools created to close the opportunity gap and deliver an excellent education to every student.  They provide free education and like other public schools they cannot discriminate by race, gender, religion, or disability.  44 states allow charter schools in the U.S. and 3.4 million students attended these schools.  Something I learned was that the classes are much smaller than regular classrooms.  Which this is really interesting because I feel l...

Tyler Lovallo                                                                                Part 4                                                 In this part of the book there were some things that I was agreeing with and somethings that I did not agree with as well.  Also, there were some things that I just assumed that were going on and some sort of things that I aspired.  Now thing that I agreed with was  “Corporate leaders and business associations viewed schools as crucial in producing a trained workforce that would strengthen American international competitiveness” (Pg176, P3). I...

Part III 1950-1980

Tyler Lovallo Professor Knauer  February 15, 2022 Chapter Summary                                                                          Part III 1950-1980                                                  In this part there are certain things that are interesting to me and I would like to go over a few of them.  One is about the segregation part of  this time period.  It was the biggest thing going on at this time.  Nobody was comfortable with putting a colored student in a classroom with another race.  I still cannot wrap my head around that to this day.  Everything was different for w...

Part 2 1900-1950

Image
Tyler Lovallo                                   In part 2 there were certain things mentioned that really caught my attention.  One of them is about a quote that spoke to me and it was "education will solve every problem of our national life, even that of assimilating our foreign element" on page 145, 3rd paragraph.  This was very interesting to me because I always thought that education is one of the most important things in life.  It is a good thing to have because then you can learn about many things around you and about the real world so that way when you grow up you won't be lost.  Education is important because it helps you understand the basics of life each year you take it.  For example, when you first go to school you learn about how to read and write.  This is some...

Part 1 Classwork

Image
Tyler Lovallo                                        One thing that I will be talking about is a sentence from Part 1 that I found interesting.  It is "To the extent that education involved schooling, parents were responsible for it."  This was on page 12 and in paragraph 2.  I liked this sentence because it talks about how back then the parents weren't forcing school on their kids because it wasn't a priority to them. Also, that it wasn't really as big as it is now.  I find this crazy because now mostly all parents want their kids to go to school and have a great education.  Also, now if you don't have your kids in some sort of school you can get in trouble as well. Another thing I would like to talk about is a word that was used.  It was Media and it was found on page 2 paragraph 5.  I thought thi...

Literacy Autobiography

Tyler Lovallo                                            Think about your earliest experience of becoming literate.  Someone that has helped me with this growing up was my father.  He helped me with many things that helped me  become literate when growing up.  He inspired me to become a hard worker and to always try to do your best no matter what.  He was also a great supporter as well.  Every time I had a sports game he would go out of his way to make it to one of my games.  Then whenever I had practice he made sure I was there 15 minutes early all the time to prove to the coaches that I wanted to play.  I was actually encouraged by my father because he always wanted me to be the best and outwork everyone else around me.  It definitely was a good mindset to have when I was younger because it helped me out in...
